Since his debut CD ‘Introducing Brad Mehldau’ (1995), Brad Mehldau has grown into one of the most versatile and influential jazz pianists of this time. Experts often line him up with Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett. With bass player Larry Grenadier and drummer Jeff Ballard Mehldau forms a fantastic trio. Albums such as ‘Ode’ and ‘Where Do You Start’ contain a subtle mix of melancholia, romance and swing. But Mehldau has also seduced the less jazz-oriented audience with arrangements of songs by Radiohead, Nick Drake and Elliott Smith, amongst others.

“Hoogtepunten van het album zijn het wonderschone titelnummer, Dream Sketch, Bee Blues (Mehldau’s opvallende link naar Theloniuos Monk) en het imposante Eulogy for George Hanson. Maar ook het bizar ‘swingende’ Stan The Man en het door Mehldau begeesterde Twiggy zijn imposante composities, zonder de rest van het album te kort te doen.”
