TakeRoot presents: de Amerikaanse muzikant Austin Lucas en twee support acts. Austin Lucas bracht afgelopen zomer zijn zevende studio album ‘Immortal Americans’ uit. De folk-zanger met punk roots schreef het album na een woelige periode in zijn leven waarin hij zijn drankverslaving te lijf ging en brak met zijn oude platenlabel.

Na meer dan 20 jaar keerde Lucas terug naar zijn geboorteplaats Bloomington in de Midwest van de Verenigde Staten. De veranderingen van zijn geboortegrond en de veranderingen in hemzelf vormen de belangrijkste muzikale inspiratiebron voor zijn nieuwste werk.
In de muziek van Austin Lucas weerklinkt een heldere blik op een donkere periode, gepresenteerd in een gestripte nummers vol nostalgie. Zoals hij zelf zegt:
“Not all of this is happy stuff, but there’s hope. There’s light in the darkness. I really do believe in second and third chances, because I know how many chances I’ve received. You have to keep fighting, because that’s what makes life worth living.”
Warshy (Crazy Arm)
Eén van de support-acts die Austin Lucas meeneemt is Warshy. De naam Warshy – een samentrekking van de woorden ‘oorlog’ en ‘verlegen’ – is het nieuwe soloproject van Crazy Arm frontman Darren Johns. Verwacht rootsy rock’n’roll energie en af en toe een politiek geladen songtekst.
Flora Sculler
Flora Sculler speelt normaal gesproken in de Nederlandse punkrockband MARCH, maar zo af en toe gaat ze op de akoestische tour. Ze zingt liedjes van haar band, gloednieuw solowerk en een aantal covers van haar favoriete artiesten.
TakeRoot presents: the American musician Austin Lucas and two support acts. Austin Lucas released his seventh studio album ‘Immortal Americans’ last summer. The folk singer with punk roots wrote the album following a turbulent period in his life in which he battled his alcohol addiction and left his former record label.
After more than 20 years Lucas returned to his birthplace Bloomington in the Midwest of the United States. These changes, of his birthplace as well as of himself, are the main musical source of inspiration for his most recent work.
A clear outlook on a dark period resounds in Austin Lucas’ music, presented in candid tracks full of nostalgia. In his own words:

Warshy (Crazy Arm)
One of Austin Lucas’ support acts is Warshy. The name Warshy – a contraction of the words ‘war’ and ‘shy’ – is the new solo project of Crazy Arm frontman Darren Johns. Expect rootsy rock‘n’roll energy and a political lyric every once in a while.
Flora Sculler
Flora Sculler usually plays in the Dutch punk-rock band MARCH, but from time to time she turns acoustic. She sings songs of her band, brand-new solo tracks, and some covers of her favourite artists.
