Pianotrios van Brahms
Drie internationaal geroemde solisten, de cellist Nicolas Altstaedt, pianist Alexander Lonquich en violist Barnabás Kelemen, buigen zich tijdens dit concert over de pianotrio’s van Brahms.
Brahms liet de wereld het nodige aan muziek na: grootschalige symfonische werken, koorwerken, concerten, liederen en natuurlijk een schat aan kamermuziek. En dan te bedenken dat er bij deze eeuwige twijfelaar ook nog het nodige in de open haard verdween.
In 1854, op twintigjarige leeftijd en boordevol ambitie, schreef Brahms zijn allereerste pianotrio. Een zeer romantisch werk dat hij 35 jaar later – inmiddels gepokt en gemazeld – opnieuw onder handen nam. Het is deze van jeugdige onvolmaaktheden ontdane versie die tegenwoordig wordt uitgevoerd. De andere twee trio’s componeerde Brahms respectievelijk in 1882 en 1886, een periode waarin hij zich creatief op een hoogtepunt bevond.

Brahms left the world a great deal of music: ambitious symphonic works, choral compositions, concertos, songs and, of course, a wealth of chamber music. And that’s not even counting all the lost pieces this renowned second-guesser just threw away.
In 1854, at the age of twenty and brimming with ambition, Brahms wrote his very first piano trio. A highly romantic work he would revisit 35 years later – now a bit more wary and wiser. It is this version, stripped of its youthful imperfections, that is performed today. Brahms composed the other two trios in 1882 and 1886 respectively, a period where he was at his creative peak.
