Evenement verplaatst!

Er lijkt licht aan het eind van de tunnel, maar helaas komen versoepelingen voor sommige concerten net te laat, zijn niet voldoende of is de toekomst nog te onzeker voor grote internationale tournees. Dit is bijvoorbeeld het geval voor de tour van UB40 en hierdoor wordt deze show alsnog verplaatst en wel naar zondag 5 juni. We hopen dat je er alsnog bij bent! Reeds gekochte tickets blijven geldig, tickethouders hebben per mail bericht gehad.

UB40 keert terug naar De Oosterpoort! De energieke optredens van de Engelse succesband zijn een feest voor liefhebbers van hun poppy reggae. Met hits als Food For Thought, One In Ten, Kingston Town, Cherry Oh Baby, (I Can’t Help) Falling in Love With You en natuurlijk Red, Red Wine belooft het een trip down memory lane te worden!

UB40 werd in 1978 opgericht en verwijst met de naam naar het “Unemployment Benefit Form 40”, het formulier waarmee Engelse werklozen zich moesten aanmelden om een werkloosheidsuitkering te krijgen. Na het eerste album konden de bandleden zich permanent uitschrijven bij de plaatselijke UWV want sindsdien besteeg de band uit Birmingham de internationale hitlijsten! UB40 ontving viermaal een Grammy-nominatie voor Beste Reggae-album en verkocht wereldwijd meer dan zeventig miljoen platen. Dankzij uitverkochte shows door het hele land, waaronder AFAS Live en Rotterdam Ahoy blijkt dat het werk van UB40 nog niets aan glans heeft verloren!

De bezetting van UB40 bestaat uit ‘founding members’ Jimmy Brown (drums), Robin Campbell (co-lead vocals/gitaar), Earl Falconer (bas/zang) en Norman Hassan (percussie/zang), plus Matt Doyle (lead vocals, sinds Duncan in juni 2021 is gestopt), Martin Meredith (sax/keys), Laurence Parry (trompet) en Tony Mullings (toetsen).

UB40 was founded in 1978 and refers to the “Unemployment Benefit Form 40”: the form with which English unemployed persons were to apply for unemployment benefits. After their first album the band members could sign off from their local unemployment agency permanently, because the Birmingham band started climbing the international charts! UB40 were awarded with a Grammy nomination for Best Reggae Album no less than four times and sold more than seventy million albums worldwide. Sold-out concerts in the entire country, among others in AFAS Live and Rotterdam Ahoy, show that UB40’s work is still as magnificent as ever!
